Robot maker LimX Dynamics, backed by Alibaba and JD.com, has secretly filed for a Hong Kong listing to raise several hundred million dollars, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Jesse Liu, chief financial officer of LimX Dynamics, said the company is working to advance the IPO process but declined to disclose further details.
The company pooled USD200 million in a funding round in July, implying a valuation of RMB15 billion. Investors include Alibaba (09988.HK), JD.com (09618.HK) and investment firm IDG Capital. LimX is discussing IPO arrangements with CITIC Securities, according to the report.
LimX Dynamics is an embodied AI robot manufacturer focused on the research, development, manufacturing and commercialization of general-purpose robots. Its products include the fully autonomous humanoid robots Oli and Luna, as well as the modular robot TRON series. The company designs robots for industrial and service applications, a segment of China's robotics market that has drawn heavy venture funding.
The company has not disclosed an offer price, indicative range, listing date or use of proceeds. Cornerstone investors have not been named.
The filing comes as Hong Kong deepens its pipeline of robotics and artificial intelligence listings. The exchange operator reported first-half average daily turnover climbed to HKD283 billion, continuing to set new highs, according to related news. A successful LimX listing would add to a wave of Chinese tech companies seeking capital in Hong Kong.
The backing of Alibaba and JD.com gives LimX a distribution and technology edge in a market where humanoid robots are moving from prototypes toward commercial deployment. Both e-commerce giants have invested in robotics for warehouse automation and logistics, areas where LimX's general-purpose machines could find early buyers.
The listing would give LimX access to Hong Kong capital markets as China's humanoid robot sector draws investor interest. The RMB15 billion valuation places the startup among the larger private robotics companies seeking public listings. Investors will watch for the prospectus and indicative price range to gauge institutional demand for the offering.
