PONS, a token launchpad on Robinhood Chain, gained 1,256% in August to become the month's top-performing cryptocurrency, outpacing the Official Trump memecoin's 67% advance.
CoinGecko data shows PONS, which lets users create and trade fixed-supply tokens directly from their wallets, climbed to an all-time high of $0.3981 on Aug. 30 before settling at $0.3354 as of 5:04 a.m. ET. The token launched last week on Robinhood Chain, the network developed by Robinhood Markets Inc. (NASDAQ: HOOD).
Helium (HNT) ranked second with a 302% monthly gain to $0.7379, while Bitway added 258% to $0.4082 and Stacks (STX), a Bitcoin Layer-2 token, rose 82% to $0.2499. Official Trump (TRUMP) lifted 67% to $2.38, placing it among the top-10 performers as the broader memecoin sector rallied.
The surge came as the total cryptocurrency market expanded 22% in August, from $2.16 trillion to $2.64 trillion, with Bitcoin gaining 24% to top $80,000 for the first time in three months and Ethereum rising 31%. Memecoin market capitalization climbed roughly 31% to $30.6 billion, according to TradingView data.
What's Driving the Rally
PONS's debut on Robinhood Chain marks the latest push by the brokerage into on-chain infrastructure. The network generated $2.66 million in app revenue on Aug. 31, surpassing Ethereum and Hyperliquid, according to on-chain data. The launchpad's non-custodial model lets users mint and trade tokens without intermediaries, a structure that has drawn speculative flows into newly listed assets.
TRUMP's advance was supported by a Korea Blockchain Week appearance announcement and a jump in derivatives open interest of 57% to about $188.7 million, per TradingView. The token's momentum reflects a broader rotation back into high-beta memecoins after a summer lull.
Risks and Outlook
The concentration of gains in newly launched tokens carries elevated risk. PONS trades at a fraction of blue-chip market capitalizations, and its price has swung sharply since launch. TRUMP's history of insider-linked wallet selling into rallies, documented in crypto.news research, means liquidity can amplify moves in both directions.
Traders will watch whether Robinhood Chain sustains its revenue run-rate and whether PONS holds above its launch-week range as September begins. A pullback in Bitcoin from the $80,000 level would likely pressure the speculative tokens that led August's advance.
