TRON's stablecoin dominance reached new highs in Q2 2026 even as its on-chain DeFi economy contracted for a fourth straight quarter.

TRON's stablecoin market cap reached a record $89.2 billion in Q2 2026 as the network processed $2.1 trillion in USDT transfers, according to a Messari report released Aug. 10.
"TRON's stablecoin footprint continued to expand in Q2," TRON DAO said in a post on X. "Stablecoin market cap reached a record $89.2B, while the network processed $2.1T in USDT transfers during the quarter and ended Q2 as the largest host chain for circulating USDT."
USDT supply on TRON ended the quarter at $87.9 billion, ahead of Ethereum's $78.7 billion, giving TRON the largest circulating stablecoin balance of any blockchain. The network held 47.6 percent of all tracked USDT supply by the end of June. Average daily USDT transfers rose 4.3 percent from the prior quarter to $22.8 billion, while total stablecoin value across all networks grew 4.1 percent.
The growth extended beyond the quarter. TRON's own tracker showed USDT supply passing $90 billion on July 9, and lifetime transactions crossed 15 billion in early August. Yet the record settlement flows have not translated into on-chain trading: DeFi total value locked slipped 1.9 percent to $4.4 billion, and average daily DEX volume fell 21.7 percent to $49.3 million — a fourth straight quarterly decline.
Network fees rose 15.9 percent to $699.4 million, the first quarterly increase since an August 2025 governance change cut the energy unit price. Average transaction cost rose to $0.65. TRX supply grew by about 87 million tokens to 94.85 billion, while total staked TRX fell slightly to 45.7 billion, dropping the staking rate to 48.2 percent.
Network usage set records. TRON averaged 11.8 million daily transactions, up 8.7 percent, and 3.6 million daily active addresses, up 11.7 percent. It cleared a record 14.6 million transactions on June 15. Stablecoin velocity held at 0.26, meaning roughly a quarter of supply changed hands daily, a level steady for five straight quarters.
Binance.US brought back TRX trading on April 16, reversing a 2023 removal. Bitnomial added spot TRX trading before launching regulated TRX futures on July 27. Anchorage Digital opened TRX staking for institutional clients in July, and Canary Capital amended its staked TRX ETF filing, naming Cboe BZX as the exchange and TRXS as the ticker. The filing awaits regulatory approval.
The US Treasury added 131 TRON addresses to a sanctions list on July 1, targeting accounts linked to ISIS K. Tether froze all 131 addresses, which had received more than $1.4 million since 2023.
TRX ended the quarter near $0.32, essentially flat after an 11.6 percent gain in Q1, and now trades around $0.33, about 23 percent below its record high. The split between record settlement demand and shrinking on-chain trading raises a question about what drives the token: whether payment dominance will ever convert into value for TRX itself.
