Utilidata Expands into 15,000-Sq-Ft Michigan HQ with $250K Grant
On February 4, 2026, AI power management firm Utilidata announced the opening of its new 15,000-square-foot headquarters and innovation lab in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The move is supported by a $250,000 grant from the Michigan Business Development Program, which will facilitate the creation of 25 new full-time jobs. This expansion significantly increases the company's footprint from its previous 2,500-square-foot lab, bringing its local workforce to 43 employees and positioning Ann Arbor as its primary hub for product development and testing.
Karman Platform Targets Data Center Inefficiency on NVIDIA B200s
The new facility is purpose-built to advance Utilidata's core product, the Karman platform, which is designed to solve power limitations in critical infrastructure. The lab houses NVIDIA B200 servers to simulate AI workloads, allowing engineers to test and measure how Karman can optimize power consumption under realistic conditions. The platform, which uses a custom NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano module, provides real-time visibility and control over power flow to unlock existing but unused electrical capacity.
A separate lab will focus on distributed energy resources (DERs), replicating electrified homes with solar, batteries, and EVs to refine Karman's grid management capabilities. This dual focus highlights the company's strategy to enhance efficiency across the energy ecosystem.
Our focus is on helping operators safely and responsibly use the power they already have with high-resolution, real-time visibility and control.
