Decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) XYO announced the launch of its AI software development kit (SDK) on May 12, a move designed to lower the barrier to entry for developers building on its Layer One blockchain which has over 10 million nodes. The toolkit enables developers to use natural language prompts and AI-powered coding assistants like OpenAI's Codex and Anthropic's Claude to create on-chain applications.
"Provenance, sovereignty, identity — these are working cryptographic answers AI has not used because putting anything on a blockchain has always been too hard for anyone outside a small group of specialist engineers,” said XYO co-founder Markus Levin. “We have removed that barrier.”
The new SDK abstracts away the complexities of blockchain development, such as writing smart contracts in Solidity or managing node infrastructure. Instead, developers can use "vibe coding," or natural language-based instructions, to build and deploy applications. The company stated that projects previously requiring months of work from specialized teams can now be completed by a single developer in an afternoon.
This launch positions XYO to attract a wider pool of developers beyond the crypto-native community, potentially accelerating the growth of its ecosystem. Alongside the SDK, XYO also unveiled Data Lakes, a solution for off-chain data storage with on-chain cryptographic verification. This feature is intended to ensure data provenance and auditability for AI models, a critical step in mitigating the risk of AI "hallucinations" by providing verifiable training data. The company anticipates this will unlock new application categories, including AI-driven prediction markets, gaming, and healthcare apps, built on its sDePIN infrastructure.
