The XRP Ledger (XRPL) announced on April 14, 2026, it is integrating Boundless' zero-knowledge technology into its mainnet, a move designed to offer confidential transactions for banking clients while maintaining regulatory compliance.
"This integration brings bank-grade privacy to a public ledger without sacrificing the transparency regulators require," a spokesperson for XRPL said in a statement.
The technology will utilize zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs) to shield transaction details, such as amounts and parties involved, while still allowing for verification by the network. This positions XRPL to compete with other privacy-focused enterprise blockchains like R3's Corda and JPMorgan's Onyx. The integration is expected to go live in Q3 2026.
For XRP, this integration could significantly increase its utility and appeal to financial institutions, which have so far been hesitant to conduct large-scale transactions on public blockchains due to privacy concerns. The successful implementation could drive institutional adoption and increase demand for the XRP asset as a bridge currency for cross-border payments.
