The XRP Ledger's Axelar integration lets XRP and eight other assets move across blockchains, expanding the network beyond payments.
The XRP Ledger launched native cross-chain transfers through Axelar Network on Aug. 4, letting XRP and eight other assets move across multiple blockchains through the Axelar App.
"Users can now move assets cross-chain and settle in seconds on the XRP Ledger," the XRP Ledger Foundation said.
The integration makes both the XRP Ledger and its EVM Sidechain available through the Axelar App, supporting XRP alongside SHx, USDf, SOIL, WETH, WBTC, mBTC, mTBILL and mXRP.
Interoperability protocols such as Axelar let tokens move securely between blockchains, expanding liquidity and opening access to DeFi applications. XRP traded at $1.07 as of Aug. 4, up 0.5 percent over 24 hours and 1.7 percent over the past week, with daily volume near $965 million, CoinGecko data shows.
Cross-Chain Infrastructure Draws Scrutiny
The launch comes as cross-chain providers face renewed scrutiny after a $292 million exploit of Kelp DAO's LayerZero-powered bridge earlier this year. BitGo said it will replace LayerZero with Chainlink's CCIP as the exclusive cross-chain provider for its $7.3 billion of wrapped bitcoin, part of a wave of announced migrations now totaling roughly $14.6 billion.
Ripple Builds Out Capital Markets Stack
The interoperability push follows Ripple's investments in ZILO and Licuido, adding regulated transfer agency, digital issuance and collateral mobility to its capital markets infrastructure on XRPL. The move follows Aviva Investors' tokenization of its U.S. Dollar Liquidity Fund on XRPL, the first tokenized fund structure approved by the Central Bank of Ireland on a public blockchain.
Ripple President Monica Long said the industry has reached a turning point, with financial institutions moving from testing to production deployments. Ripple aims to provide the full infrastructure stack for tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger, she said.
Nigel Khakoo, Ripple's senior vice president for trading and markets, said tokenization's value comes from trading, settling, borrowing, lending and posting margin, citing collaborations with asset managers to deploy tokenized fund structures at scale.
Infrastructure work continues elsewhere. The XRP Ledger Foundation partnered with Ankr to expand globally distributed XRPL node infrastructure and is collaborating with VS1 Finance on an open-source lending reference application. XRPL developers are preparing for the xrpld 3.3.0 release, with 100 percent of dUNL validators already upgraded to 3.2.1.
The next 12 to 24 months will show whether these structures create active secondary liquidity or remain dormant, as the focus shifts from minting tokenized assets to making them financeable collateral at institutional levels.
