Shares of UiPath climbed 46.3% in August as software sector results eased worries that AI would displace incumbent vendors. The enterprise-automation company issued no company-specific financial news during the month, with its fiscal second-quarter report landing Sept. 3.
RBC Capital analysts raised price targets on several software stocks in mid-August, writing that "recent checks and on-quarter results from our AI, cyber, infra, and data coverage leave us more optimistic as we head into the 2H with upside to consensus estimates now appearing more likely."
The advance reversed a brutal first half, when the enterprise software space was hit by fears that Anthropic's Claude code and other agentic offerings would let customers "vibe code" their own applications rather than buy them. Second-quarter reports from peers showed growth holding up, and Salesforce's stronger-than-expected earnings on Aug. 26 triggered a sectorwide advance into month-end. Software stocks are expected to report 15 percent earnings growth for 2026 overall, according to late-August reporting.
The recovery extended beyond UiPath. Snowflake shares have climbed 47 percent this year as investors rewarded the data platform's AI-driven momentum, while Palantir and ServiceNow have shown they can benefit from AI demand rather than be hurt by it. UiPath, which automates back-office workflows, sits at the center of the debate over whether agentic software will replace or complement such tools.
UiPath reported fiscal Q2 revenue up 13.3 percent to $410.2 million, ahead of expectations, with current-quarter revenue guidance also exceeding estimates. Adjusted earnings per share were flat from a year earlier at $0.15, in line with consensus — an imperfection that contributed to the pullback.
The stock fell about 16.6 percent after the Sept. 3 report, leaving it at roughly four times annualized recurring revenue, or about 3.4 times on an enterprise-value basis after accounting for $1.3 billion in cash and no debt. The shares closed at $15.19 on Sept. 4, near the low end of a 52-week range of $9.20 to $19.84, giving UiPath a market value of about $7.9 billion, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
That valuation remains inexpensive for a software name growing in the double digits, though lingering AI-disruption concerns still weigh on the shares. Investors will watch whether UiPath can sustain double-digit growth as agentic software tools mature, with the sector's second-half earnings season the next test of the AI thesis.
