Tencent is targeting the creator economy with a new AI tool that turns natural language prompts into ready-to-use mobile applications.

Tencent Holdings Ltd.’s new Toast platform allows users to generate up to five complete Android applications daily using only natural language, a move that challenges the traditional app development market by targeting millions of non-technical creators.
"The platform is designed to build a complete 'idea-to-app-to-distribution-to-co-creation' closed loop, enabling every user to become an application creator," according to an initial review by the publication Tech星球.
The version 1.0 release, currently available for Android, provides four main functions: core app creation from text prompts, social sharing via links or QR codes, an "Inspiration Square" for sharing app templates, and an AI-powered search to discover other user-created apps. An iOS version is planned to follow.
As large tech firms accelerate their push into AI application generation, Tencent's internal incubator is betting that a focus on a collaborative ecosystem can capture the market of users who have ideas but no coding ability. This move could bolster Tencent's position in the generative AI race, although the immediate financial impact is limited as the product is in a free, exploratory public beta.
The core of Toast is its simplified workflow that abstracts away all technical complexity. A user starts by describing their desired application in a few sentences. The AI then automatically deconstructs the request into a set of core functions and generates a working prototype for preview.
Users can refine the application through a multi-turn conversational interface, adjusting details until the app meets their specifications. Once confirmed, the platform packages the project into an APK installation file with a single click. This file can be downloaded and installed directly onto an Android device, completing the entire process from concept to usable app without the user ever seeing a line of code. During the public beta, the service is free, with users receiving five app generation credits per day.
While the market for no-code development tools is growing, Tencent is positioning Toast to be more than a utility. Its focus is on "inspiration realization" and "co-creation," a strategy aimed at building a community-driven ecosystem. The "Inspiration Square" feature is central to this vision, allowing users to publish their creations as templates. Other users can then one-click copy an app, use it as a starting point, and add their own ideas in a process the company calls a "creative relay."
This strategy mirrors a broader trend of specialized AI tools emerging across various sectors. While companies like Sarvam AI are building foundational models for specific languages and cultures, and the legal industry sees an explosion of task-specific agents like those from QuisLex and Onit, Tencent is targeting the consumer and creator space. By building a closed loop of creation, distribution, and collaborative remixing, Toast aims to create a network effect that differentiates it from competitors focused solely on the technical aspects of app generation. The success of this internally-incubated product will depend on whether this co-creation ecosystem can gain traction and prove its value in a rapidly evolving market.
