Strategy's Bitcoin treasury is within $300 of turning profitable after the sharpest recovery in its unrealized position since the 2022 bear market.

Strategy is within $300 of breaking even on its Bitcoin position as unrealized losses narrow to $685 million from $9.904 billion, according to on-chain data as of 05:00 UTC on Aug. 21.
On-chain analyst EmberCN put Strategy's average Bitcoin purchase price at $75,385, with Bitcoin trading near $75,085 at the Asian session open. A move of roughly $300 would bring the firm's holdings to breakeven.
The swing represents a recovery of about $9.2 billion in the company's paper position. Bitmine, another corporate digital-asset holder, saw its Ethereum unrealized loss fall to $5.879 billion from $8.513 billion. The treasury firm holds 5,815,164 ETH worth $11.06 billion at an average cost of $3,366 per coin.
Reaching breakeven could embolden Strategy to continue its accumulation strategy and draw investors who had been wary of the firm's large paper losses. Bitcoin's rally, which lifted the price 8.18 percent to $75,210, has been driven by institutional flows and favorable macro conditions.
Bitmine's position improved as Ethereum rose nearly 20 percent overnight, narrowing the firm's unrealized loss to $5.879 billion from $8.513 billion. The simultaneous recovery across both BTC and ETH positions points to a broader market rebound affecting multiple corporate crypto holders. Total crypto market cap rose 5.95 percent to $2.63 trillion, with 24-hour spot volume up 10.4 percent to $59.4 billion. Ethereum's 4.59 percent gain to $2,350 in the same period contributed to the improvement in Bitmine's position, though the firm remains deeply underwater on its average cost basis.
A return to profitability on paper could influence future corporate decisions regarding Bitcoin acquisitions. Strategy has consistently added to its position through various market cycles, and reaching breakeven may confirm its long-term conviction in the asset. Bitcoin dominance rose 2.11 percentage points to 57.32 percent, while Ethereum dominance slipped 1.30 points to 10.78 percent, reflecting the relative strength in BTC during this leg of the rally.
For investors tracking corporate treasury strategies, the breakeven threshold is more than a technical metric. It represents a psychological turning point that could attract new capital to firms holding digital assets on their balance sheets. If Bitcoin sustains its current momentum, Strategy's position could flip to a paper profit within days, potentially triggering a fresh wave of corporate accumulation. The recovery in both BTC and ETH positions also suggests that the broader crypto market is stabilizing, which could encourage other companies to maintain or expand their digital asset treasuries. For Strategy specifically, the path from a $9.9 billion paper loss to breakeven in a matter of days shows the volatility inherent in corporate crypto treasury strategies, even as it confirms the firm's long-term conviction in Bitcoin.
