StoneX Group (NASDAQ: SNEX) reported record fiscal second-quarter net income of $174.3 million, a 143 percent year-over-year increase, driven by heightened market volatility and contributions from its recent acquisition of R.J. O’Brien.
"Despite the geopolitical uncertainty, nearly all of our products reported a double-digit growth driven by higher volatility and increased demand for our services,” Chief Executive Officer Philip A. Smith said.
Shares of StoneX reacted to the strong performance, which produced a 26.5% return on equity for the quarter. The company is realizing synergies from the R.J. O'Brien deal faster than initially expected, with an annualized run rate of $32 million exiting the quarter.
Broad-Based Growth Drives Record Results
The financial services firm saw broad-based growth across its commercial, institutional, retail, and payments segments. Listed derivatives operating revenue surged 148%, primarily due to the R.J. O’Brien acquisition, while over-the-counter derivatives revenue jumped 98% on strong client activity in agricultural and energy markets.
Physical contracts also set a record, with operating revenue increasing 162%, driven by a $116.1 million increase in precious metals revenue. Securities operating revenue rose 38% as volumes increased 35 percent.
R.J. O’Brien Integration
The integration of R.J. O’Brien, a key contributor to the record results, is proceeding on schedule. The acquisition added $35 million in pre-tax net income during the quarter. Management expects to substantially complete the integration later in the fiscal year and is on track to reach its $50 million synergy target in 2027.
The record results demonstrate StoneX's ability to capitalize on market volatility, while the successful integration of R.J. O'Brien strengthens its position in the derivatives market. Investors will be watching for the completion of the integration later this fiscal year and the realization of targeted synergies into 2027.
