Ripple has evolved from a cross-border payments firm into a full-stack institutional finance platform spanning custody, stablecoins and prime brokerage.
Ripple has transformed from a cross-border payments provider into a full-stack institutional finance platform offering digital asset custody, the U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD, treasury management and institutional trading services, SVP Jack McDonald said.
"Institutions can simplify operations by using one provider instead of several," McDonald, speaking with Charlie Perkins of Grayscale Research, said. The company expanded through product development and acquisitions, including Standard Custody & Trust Company and Hidden Road.
Ripple holds more than 60 regulatory licenses, registrations and approvals worldwide, a footprint McDonald said could become increasingly valuable as digital asset rules evolve. The company targets banks, fintechs, payment firms and asset managers — organizations that require regulated, enterprise-grade infrastructure. McDonald described RLUSD as infrastructure rather than a market share play, prioritizing practical use cases over rapid supply growth.
The strategy addresses a common hurdle in institutional crypto adoption. Many firms still rely on separate providers for custody, liquidity, stablecoin infrastructure and execution services. Ripple believes integrating those services can reduce operational complexity. Investors should watch RLUSD adoption, acquisition integration and enterprise product growth as indicators of whether Ripple is gaining meaningful institutional traction.
Ripple's 60-plus licenses span multiple jurisdictions, giving it a compliance foundation that most crypto firms lack. Banks and regulated financial firms typically prefer established regulatory frameworks, McDonald said. That position could strengthen as the U.S. and other major economies finalize digital asset rules. The company also invests through its University Blockchain Research Initiative, which includes more than 60 academic partners studying blockchain technology, tokenization, artificial intelligence and post-quantum cryptography.
Ripple is not alone in targeting institutional clients. Standard Chartered recently announced plans to serve hedge funds and asset managers via crypto prime brokerage, intensifying competition. Ripple's bet is that its integrated platform — combining custody, stablecoin, trading and treasury tools — will differentiate it from single-service providers.
XRP traded at about $1.10 on July 27, 2026. Prediction markets assign an 89% probability that XRP will trade between $1 and $1.20 by Aug. 1, 2026, suggesting limited near-term price movement despite the platform expansion.
