Pudgy Penguins, the Ethereum NFT brand, launched trading cards at Target stores on Saturday, expanding its physical retail presence beyond 2,000 Walmart locations.
"Target is the next step in bringing Pudgy Penguins to mainstream consumers," Luca Netz, chief executive officer of Pudgy Penguins, said.
The brand's physical toys entered more than 2,000 Walmart stores in 2023, with more than 1 million toys sold over the following 12 months, Netz said in May 2024. Its licensing model allows NFT holders to receive 5% of net revenue from physical products featuring their individual penguins. The project also expanded into gaming, launching Pengu Clash on The Open Network in 2025 and the Pudgy Party mobile game in August 2025, which surpassed 1 million downloads before the company halted further development to focus on a browser-based title called Pudgy World.
The Target rollout shows mainstream retailers embracing Web3 intellectual property as a consumer brand category. Pudgy Penguins ranks among the top five NFT collections by market capitalization, according to NFT Price Floor, and the retail push could drive further floor price appreciation for the collection while encouraging other NFT projects to pursue similar brick-and-mortar partnerships.
