Crypto payments infrastructure company MoonPay launched its Headless Onramps platform, enabling one-tap cryptocurrency purchases through an API integration available in over 100 countries.
"The launch marks a shift from MoonPay’s existing onramp widget," the company said, moving from a hosted checkout flow to a white-label API that partners can fully embed inside their own applications.
The new platform supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, and credit and debit cards, with initial partners including Trust Wallet, Bitcoin.com, and Moonshot. For verified users, purchases can be completed with a single tap without leaving the partner app. MoonPay handles payment processing, compliance, and identity verification in the background.
This move intensifies competition with rivals like Stripe Crypto and Coinbase Onramp by aiming to reduce user friction, a major hurdle for crypto adoption. By keeping users within a partner's branded environment, MoonPay aims to improve conversion rates, which it claims are already at 80% for completed purchases.
The "headless" integration allows developers to build a native checkout experience, a significant change from the previous system that redirected users to a MoonPay-branded page. This design reflects growing demand from Web3 applications for e-commerce-style payment flows that increase user retention.
MoonPay's global reach, covering the United States and the European Economic Area at launch, distinguishes the offering. The company holds a New York BitLicense, EU MiCA authorization, and money transmitter licenses in 47 US states, absorbing the regulatory overhead for its partners.
The launch follows MoonPay's 2025 acquisition of Solana-native payments firm Helio, which has been integrated to power features like zero-fee top-ups for some users and fast on-ramping for the Solana ecosystem.
