Mantle Deploys ERC-8004 to Give AI Agents On-Chain Identity
On February 16, 2026, Mantle announced the official deployment of the ERC-8004 standard on its mainnet, creating a specialized trust layer for autonomous agents. Previously, on-chain AI agents faced a "visibility crisis," unable to build reputation or prove historical performance outside their native ecosystems. ERC-8004 solves this by introducing three on-chain registries: an Identity Registry for unique NFT-based IDs, a Reputation Registry for a portable performance history, and a Validation Registry for cryptographic proof of work.
This framework transforms AI scripts into sovereign economic actors capable of operating across high-stakes financial markets. The standard makes agents discoverable, their track records auditable, and their work verifiable, addressing a critical gap that has limited their use in environments requiring trust and compliance.
Network Taps $4B+ Treasury to Pioneer 'DeFAI' Market
Mantle is leveraging its significant resources, including a treasury exceeding $4 billion, to establish itself as the core liquidity layer for Decentralized AI Finance, or "DeFAI." By integrating ERC-8004, Mantle enables AI agents to function as the connective tissue between traditional finance, RWAs, and DeFi. These agents can now execute complex trading strategies, manage RWA compliance, and bridge liquidity between legacy systems and on-chain protocols.
By bringing ERC-8004 to our ecosystem, we are providing AI agents with the ‘credentials’ they need to manage real capital. This isn’t just about automation; it’s about creating a verifiable workforce that can navigate compliance, liquidity, and settlement at scale.
— Joshua Cheong, Head of Product at Mantle.
The standard is designed to be compatible with existing protocols like Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) communication. Combined with Mantle's partnerships with asset issuers like Ethena and Ondo, this positions the network to become a primary hub for the emerging autonomous economy built on Ethereum.
