HUTCHMED (China) Limited will present new data at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting showing its drug savolitinib achieved a 32.3% objective response rate in a pivotal Phase II trial for advanced gastric cancer.
The study, which evaluated patients in China with MET-amplified gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, met its primary endpoint, according to a company announcement. The results are set to be detailed at the ASCO Annual Meeting, held from May 29 to June 2 in Chicago.
According to the data, which had a cut-off of October 8, 2025, the Independent Review Committee-assessed disease control rate was 63.1%, with a median time to response of 1.4 months. The median duration of response was 9.7 months and median progression-free survival was 4.0 months. The findings will be presented by lead author Zhi Peng on June 1.
The positive outcome from the trial was significant enough to support a New Drug Application submission to the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The agency accepted the application and granted it priority review in December 2025, a key step toward potential commercialization in the world's second-largest pharmaceutical market.
HUTCHMED’s presence at ASCO will be substantial, with additional presentations scheduled for its other oncology assets, fruquintinib and surufatinib, spanning a wide range of tumor types. The conference will also feature major presentations from other global biopharmaceutical companies, including Legend Biotech (NASDAQ: LEGN) and Ascentage Pharma (HKEX: 6855), highlighting the event's importance for the entire oncology sector.
The successful Phase II results and subsequent priority review by Chinese regulators significantly advance savolitinib's path to market. Investors will be closely watching the full data presentation on June 1 for more detailed efficacy and safety insights, as well as any further updates on the NMPA's review timeline.
