An Ethereum ICO-era whale moved 3,510.42 MKR worth $4.41 million on Aug. 9, ending seven years of dormancy on a position bought at an $828.92 average.
The transfer was tracked by on-chain analyst Ai 姨 (@ai_9684xtpa), who identified the address as one of the network's oldest identifiable holders, having initially amassed 40,000 ETH during Ethereum's 2015 initial coin offering. The address's MKR accumulation ran from September 2018 through May 2019, a period when MakerDAO was expanding its collateral types and the DeFi sector was still in its early growth phase.
The whale accumulated 7,020.84 MKR at an average price of $828.92, for a total cost of roughly $5.81 million. The moved portion carries about $1.51 million in unrealized profit. No tokens were sent to an exchange, suggesting custody changes or wallet restructuring rather than immediate distribution. The remaining 3,510.42 MKR, worth roughly $4.41 million at current prices, stays in the original wallet.
The transfer comes as ETH trades near $1,913, pressing against moving-average resistance at $1,923. A confirmed move above $2,000 would strengthen the recovery structure and bring the long-term average at $2,145 into view, while rejection would test support at $1,875 and $1,800.
MKR itself trades at $1,750, sitting directly on the EMA50 at $1,748.89 while the EMA200 at $1,766.49 caps upside. The MACD golden cross at 25.41 keeps the broader structure bullish even as RSI at 48.05 stays neutral, with Bollinger Band resistance at $1,938.37 and support at $1,577.45.
The destination of the 3,510 MKR will determine whether profit-taking has truly ended seven years of inactivity. A subsequent transfer toward an exchange would significantly alter the interpretation of the move. For now, the transaction reads as an on-chain warning signal rather than confirmed distribution.
