Emirates began accepting Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payments for flight bookings through a partnership with Crypto.com, the Dubai-based carrier said July 28.
"Bringing this initiative to life delivers on our commitment to expanding customer choice in how they pay for travel," Adnan Kazim, deputy president and chief commercial officer at Emirates, said. "It also reflects the rapidly evolving preferences of a younger, digitally fluent generation who manage their money and plan their journeys primarily from their phones."
The integration, powered by Crypto.com's Dubai entity, is available to eligible UAE residents booking flights in dirhams through the airline's website and mobile app. Customers select Crypto.com Pay at checkout and are redirected to the Crypto.com app to complete the transaction, then return to receive their booking confirmation and e-ticket. Desktop users scan a QR code displayed on the payment page to approve the transaction.
Crypto.com's Dubai entity was the first virtual asset service provider to receive a stored value facilities licence from the Central Bank of the UAE, giving it regulatory clearance to offer digital payment services in the country.
The launch supports the Dubai Cashless Strategy under the D33 Economic Agenda, which targets 90% of financial transactions across the public and private sectors to be digital by the end of 2026. Emirates and Crypto.com signed a memorandum of understanding in July 2025 to integrate the digital payment platform.
Eric Anziani, president and chief operating officer at Crypto.com, described the partnership as a milestone for the company's Pay feature. "This collaboration reflects the UAE's forward-thinking approach to innovation, and we are proud to support Emirates as it expands its digital payment capabilities," he said.
The deal positions Dubai as a testing ground for mainstream crypto payments by a globally recognized brand. Other airlines and travel companies may face pressure to adopt similar payment integrations as digitally native travelers increasingly expect to spend cryptocurrency on everyday purchases. Emirates also partnered with Dubai Finance to advance digital payments across government services, signaling a coordinated push by the emirate to digitize its financial infrastructure.
