Salesforce is negotiating to acquire AI customer research platform Listen Labs at roughly $2 billion, a fourfold premium to its last valuation, extending the AI M&A wave.

Salesforce is in talks to buy Listen Labs for about $2 billion, four times the AI research startup's last valuation, in the latest sign of how much big technology companies will pay for artificial intelligence capabilities.
The discussions, which have not been finalized and could still collapse, come as the software maker pushes deeper into AI with an emphasis on enterprise agents, according to people familiar with the matter. Salesforce had earlier weighed acquiring HuggingFace before Nvidia agreed to buy the open-model platform, The Information reported.
Listen Labs, cofounded by Alfred Wahlforss and Florian Juengermann in 2023, sells an AI-driven market analysis platform used by Anthropic, Google and Nestlé. The startup was last valued at $500 million in a financing round earlier this year, with backers including Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital, Conviction Partners, Pear and Neo. A purchase at $2 billion would mark a fourfold premium to that mark.
The potential deal is part of a wave of AI acquisitions in recent weeks, with Nvidia acquiring HuggingFace for about $12.9 billion and Stripe buying OpenRouter for around $8 billion. For Salesforce, which competes with Microsoft, Oracle and SAP across enterprise software, adding customer research intelligence would strengthen its AI offering as rivals race to embed agents into their platforms.
The premium shows how far startup valuations have climbed as large technology companies compete for scarce AI talent and technology. Listen Labs, founded three years ago, would change hands at four times the valuation it commanded in its most recent funding round — a multiple that reflects the strategic value buyers attach to AI capabilities rather than current revenue.
The AI acquisition wave has accelerated through 2026. Nvidia's roughly $12.9 billion agreement for HuggingFace and Stripe's about $8 billion purchase of OpenRouter both came together within recent weeks, according to the reports. Salesforce's interest in Listen Labs follows its earlier consideration of HuggingFace, which it passed on before Nvidia moved in, The Information reported.
Salesforce has made AI central to its strategy, focusing on enterprise agents that automate customer workflows. Listen Labs' platform, which provides AI-driven market analysis for brands such as Anthropic, Google and Nestlé, would give Salesforce a tool to help customers interpret consumer research and feedback at scale, a capability that could feed directly into its agent products. The purchase would also bring in a founding team with a track record of building research tools that large brands already pay for.
If completed, the deal would rank among the larger AI acquisitions by a software company this year and show that Salesforce is willing to pay premium prices to close capability gaps rather than build them in-house. The transaction still requires final agreement and could fall apart, and any closing would hinge on regulatory review. For the broader AI startup market, the fourfold premium sets a fresh benchmark that founders and venture backers will cite in future funding rounds, potentially pushing up asking prices across the sector as enterprise buyers compete for a limited pool of AI assets.
