Ethena's ENA token climbed 12.15% to $0.1575 on Aug. 27 as a CME Group reference-rate listing and rising derivatives open interest drew fresh buying into the synthetic-dollar protocol.

ENA rose 12.15% to $0.1575 on Aug. 27 after CME Group added the token to its digital asset reference rates, with trading volume doubling to $557.6 million.
"Bullish structure remains intact — further growth toward $0.231 can materialize quickly on renewed buying," Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, said.
The gain follows a volatile stretch in which ENA swung from a 10.25% drop on Aug. 26 to a double-digit rebound the next day. Ethena increased its basis trade exposure to more than $400 million and entered a secured lending partnership with FalconX to deploy USDe collateral in institutional credit markets. Open interest climbed to $392.75 million with futures volume at $666.41 million, while short-side liquidations totaled $599.50K over 24 hours, CoinGlass data shows. The token trades above its 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages at $0.1071, $0.0932, and $0.0983 respectively.
The next test sits at $0.1836 resistance; a sustained break could open the path toward $0.231, while a drop below $0.1551 support would expose the $0.1312 Ichimoku Kijun level. ENA's market cap stands at $1.40 billion on a circulating supply of 9.82 billion tokens, with roughly 34.5% of the eventual 15 billion max supply still locked.
The rally has been accompanied by a sharp pickup in derivatives activity. Open interest reached $392.75 million against futures volume of $666.41 million, CoinGlass data shows. Short-side liquidations totaled $599.50K over 24 hours against $1.75 million on the long side, a pattern consistent with a market working off a recent breakout squeeze. Over the past four hours, short-side liquidations of $77.82K outweighed the $11.87K on the long side, suggesting immediate price action has been squeezing short positions even as the broader 24-hour window shows longs taking the bigger hit.
Ethena's inclusion in CME Group's global digital asset reference rates supports standardized price discovery for the token, while the FalconX partnership allows the protocol to deploy USDe collateral in institutional credit markets. The basis trade expansion to more than $400 million reflects growing demand for Ethena's yield product, which uses a delta-neutral hedging strategy to back the USDe synthetic dollar. The token's utility remains tied to governance of the Ethena protocol and its synthetic stablecoin.
The setup mirrors broader DeFi momentum, with ENA's breakout drawing comparisons to sector peers as traders rotate into yield-bearing protocols. Whether the rally holds depends on ENA sustaining above $0.14020 on the weekly chart; a weekly close below $0.07695 would invalidate the bullish structure entirely. With roughly 5.18 billion tokens still outside circulation, future unlocks could add supply pressure even as institutional participation grows.
