The Ethereum Foundation announced progress on its “Glamsterdam” hard fork, targeting a third-quarter 2026 release, while also confirming a leadership transition for its protocol development team. Despite the forward-looking roadmap, the price of Ether (ETH) fell 2% to $2,284 as the broader crypto market pulled back.
“There’s a new chapter starting for the Protocol cluster,” Will Corcoran, one of the new leads, said on X. Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn, and a developer known as Fredrik will take over leadership as Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko depart the Foundation and Alex Stokes takes a sabbatical.
The Glamsterdam upgrade centers on several key improvements, notably Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS), a mechanism designed to improve how Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) is handled. The proposal aims to let validators outsource block construction more securely, reducing centralization risks tied to MEV. Developers are also introducing Block-Level Access Lists (BALs) to improve execution efficiency and are continuing work to support a 200 million gas floor on the base layer.
The developments, however, failed to spark a positive market reaction. ETH broke below the $2,300 level, with technical charts showing the Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 51, indicating fading momentum. Should the selloff continue, initial support is projected at the 50-day Exponential Moving Average around $2,274, with a further breakdown exposing levels at $2,211 and $2,108. Immediate resistance sits at the 100-day EMA near $2,354.
Corporate Focus on Upgrades
The importance of Ethereum’s technical roadmap was highlighted on SharpLink Gaming’s recent Q1 earnings call. The company, which holds a significant ETH treasury, emphasized the protocol’s long-term role in financial infrastructure.
SharpLink Chairman and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin cited recent upgrades and the upcoming Glamsterdam hard fork as critical for improving block processing and supporting higher Layer 1 throughput. The discussion underscored how corporate adopters are closely watching the core development of the network to support their own strategies, even as short-term price action remains volatile.
