VivoSim Labs Inc. received a $5 million milestone payment from Eli Lilly after the first patient was dosed in a Phase 2 study of an inflammatory bowel disease drug the company previously sold to the pharmaceutical giant.
"The payment reflects progress in a program that originated from our platform, and we remain eligible for additional milestones as development continues," a VivoSim spokesperson said.
VivoSim sold the IBD drug program outright to Eli Lilly in a prior deal and remains eligible for up to $45 million in additional payments tied to regulatory and commercial milestones. The company generated $140,000 in revenue over the trailing 12 months, according to public filings.
The San Diego-based company also issued guidance for fiscal 2027, projecting revenue growth of more than 500% as pharmaceutical companies adopt its New Approach Methodology models for preclinical safety testing. VivoSim's NAMkind Liver spheroid model achieved 91% predictive accuracy with 90% sensitivity and 95% specificity under repeat-dose conditions, while its Intestine models delivered greater than 90% sensitivity for predicting drug-induced diarrhea.
The milestone payment and guidance come as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration pushes to reduce animal testing in preclinical studies. The FDA presented its Roadmap to Reducing Animal Testing in Preclinical Safety Studies in April 2025 and recently reported progress in stimulating industry adoption of human-relevant NAMs.
VivoSim's models use 3D human cellular constructs of liver and intestine tissue, combined with AI prediction models trained on multiple endpoints. The company is expanding beyond small molecules into antibody drug conjugates, antibodies, siRNA, and gene therapies.
VivoSim shares traded at $0.83, near the stock's 52-week low of $0.78, giving the company a market capitalization of about $2.4 million. The guidance raise signals management expects commercial traction to accelerate as regulatory tailwinds from the FDA's NAM initiative drive pharma demand. Investors will watch for quarterly updates on customer contract wins and milestone progress under the Eli Lilly agreement.
