ZRO fell 6% to $1.04 as a roughly $25 million token unlock due this month threatens to test LayerZero's new fee-funded buyback program.
"Most investors do not appreciate the important role LayerZero plays in crypto messaging," Cathie Wood, chief executive of ARK Invest, said in a post on X, singling out the founding team. Her endorsement followed a projection from Lorenzo Valente, ARK's director of research for digital assets, that the interoperability business alone will reach nine-figure annual recurring revenue.
The unlock lands as LayerZero begins routing protocol fees into ZRO buybacks, a structural counterweight to the added supply. ZRO's circulating base sits near 353 million tokens, and monthly unlocks have kept pressure on a token that bottomed at $0.71 on July 31 before a 36 percent monthly rebound. ARK counts more than 170 supported networks and credits LayerZero with $280 billion in cumulative value transferred and 44 percent of cross-chain volume in the first half of 2026.
The test is whether buyback demand can absorb roughly $25 million in newly unlocked tokens within days, a call that will set near-term direction for a token still trading far below its December 2024 peak of $7.47. ARK, which discloses financial interests in both LayerZero Labs and ZRO, is not a neutral observer, and the protocol does not own the category — Circle's CCTP held 41 percent of cross-chain volume in the same period while Chainlink pushes a similar pitch through CCIP.
ZRO's market value stands at $368.7 million, ranking it 120th, which puts the vesting tranche at a meaningful share of the token's daily trading depth. Most of the monthly gain came in a jump between Aug. 21 and Aug. 23, a rally that started from the record low and has since stalled as traders weigh the incoming supply against buyback capacity. Each prior monthly tranche has historically weighed on price, and the September release arrives while the buyback program is still in its early days, leaving its capacity unproven.
Wood's endorsement has yet to move the tape in the near term, and Valente framed the revenue call as his own read rather than a house forecast. Part two of the ARK series may show whether the fees support the thesis. For now, the ratio of unlock supply to buyback demand, not the narrative, is what holders will watch as September's vesting date arrives.
