Robinhood Markets (HOOD) climbed 8.2% to $112.09 on Aug. 25, adding $7.6 billion to market value as bitcoin broke $80,000 for the first time since mid-May.
"The cryptocurrency recovery appears sustainable," Dan Dolev, an analyst at Mizuho, said, citing reduced leverage across the ecosystem, strong ETF flows and early signs of retail reengagement. Dolev named Robinhood his preferred pick in the sector.
The single-day gain in equity value was roughly 76 times the $100 million Robinhood earned from crypto transactions in the second quarter, when digital assets accounted for 7.6 percent of total revenue. July crypto notional volume fell 33 percent month over month to $10.9 billion, while Robinhood App crypto volume dropped 38 percent to $4.3 billion, according to the company's July operating data.
The rally narrowed the gap to Wall Street's average price target of $120, roughly 7 percent above the close, with the consensus still a buy. The operating test is whether August crypto volumes reverse July's contraction when the company reports monthly data.
Bitcoin touched an intraday high near $81,238 before easing back under $80,400 in U.S. trading hours, extending a rally that began the previous week after the Treasury Department moved to support long-duration bonds and President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass the Clarity Act, which would define oversight between the SEC and the CFTC. Bitcoin exchange-traded funds drew about $1.9 billion in fresh capital during the preceding week, the strongest momentum since late 2025.
Robinhood outperformed the other publicly traded crypto proxies. Coinbase Global advanced 4.28 percent, while Strategy Inc. rose 3.42 percent, a split that highlights Robinhood's exposure to retail trading. Transaction revenue climbed 44 percent to $776 million in the second quarter, with event contracts contributing $156 million — more than cryptocurrencies — while options revenue rose 29 percent and equities revenue surged 95 percent.
The company reported 28.5 million funded customers and $355 billion in platform assets at the end of July, with net deposits of $5.6 billion during the month. Chief Executive Vlad Tenev has called prediction markets Robinhood's fastest-growing revenue stream; Bernstein projects event-contract volume could approach $240 billion in 2026 and roughly $1 trillion annually by 2030.
The shares trade at about 49.6 times trailing earnings, leaving limited room if activity fails to follow price. Bitcoin gave back part of its early gain, and HOOD slipped to $111.61 in after-hours trading. The next operating update will show whether August crypto volumes justify the valuation.
