Rhino Bitcoin added 500 million SPLD tokens to its corporate balance sheet after accepting the altcoin as payment for a 10 million share sale to Splendor Labs.
"Rhino Bitcoin was founded on the clear conviction that Bitcoin is the superior monetary asset, and we will continue to serve our clients exclusively in Bitcoin," Lyle Hauser, chief executive officer of Rhino Bitcoin, said. "When Splendor approached us to invest in our company, we saw an opportunity to accept their native token as payment."
The 500 million SPLD tokens will be held in institutional-grade custody and will have no impact on Rhino Bitcoin's day-to-day Bitcoin-only operations, the company said. Rhino Bitcoin trades on the OTC market under the ticker RHNO. Splendor Labs describes its blockchain as a high-performance, AI-powered, quantum-resistant Layer 1 network designed for the tokenization of real-world assets.
Major financial institutions including BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, J.P. Morgan, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup are advancing efforts to bring traditional assets such as real estate, private equity and bonds onto blockchain networks. Splendor's technology positions it to play a role in that growing ecosystem, according to the company.
The deal gives Rhino Bitcoin exposure to complementary blockchain technology without altering its Bitcoin-only service offering. Hauser said the measured allocation strengthens the company's overall position and can benefit shareholders over the long term. Rhino Bitcoin will remain exclusively focused on Bitcoin and has no intention of expanding beyond its Bitcoin-only service offering, the company said.
