Lido's Community Staking Module became the first staking module to earn full Ethereum certification on Aug. 28, broadening validator diversity across the network.
The certification, announced by Lido, is designed to enhance the protocol's credibility and set a new benchmark for staking competitors, according to the announcement. Lido is the largest liquid staking protocol on Ethereum, with LDO serving as its governance token.
The Community Staking Module lets individual operators run validators with lower capital requirements than the standard 32 ETH, expanding the set of entities securing the network. That reduces concentration risk among a handful of large staking providers, a concern that has drawn scrutiny from Ethereum researchers and community members.
The certification strengthens Lido's position as the dominant liquid staking protocol, potentially attracting more ETH stakers and institutional participation. It may also pressure rivals such as Rocket Pool and centralized exchanges including Coinbase and Binance to accelerate their own certification efforts, and could support demand for LDO.
Lido's scale has long been a point of tension within Ethereum, where a single protocol controlling a large share of staked ETH raises questions about network neutrality.
