Lando Norris won the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 26, delivering the HBAR-sponsored McLaren Formula 1 team its first victory of the 2026 season.
"This win provides significant global exposure for the Hedera brand at a critical moment in the network's growth," a spokesperson for the Hedera HBAR Foundation said.
Norris, the reigning world champion, started from pole position at the Hungaroring but lost the lead to teammate Oscar Piastri on the opening lap after a slide at Turn 2. He spent 40 laps within eight-tenths of a second of Piastri before the race turned on McLaren's split-strategy call. Piastri pitted twice to Norris's once, and a collision with Williams driver Carlos Sainz during Piastri's second stop cost the Australian crucial time. Norris emerged from his sole pit stop in the lead and never looked back, while Piastri later retired with a gearbox issue. Norris finished ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who took second place.
The victory supports the case for Hedera's sports marketing investment, with the McLaren partnership placing the HBAR logo on one of F1's most visible cars throughout a season watched by a global audience of more than 1 billion viewers. HBAR, the native token of the Hedera Hashgraph network, has seen increased community engagement following the race result, according to social media metrics tracked by the foundation.
McLaren dominated the weekend at the Hungaroring, with Norris topping all three stages of qualifying to take pole position. The team introduced an updated aerodynamic package that helped close the gap to Mercedes, which had dominated the first half of the season. Norris said after the race he was driving better than during his championship-winning 2025 campaign, citing improvements he had made both on and off the track.
The Hungarian Grand Prix is one of Formula 1's most-watched European races, and McLaren's front-running performance ensured sustained visibility for the HBAR branding throughout the 70-lap event. Hedera has sponsored McLaren since 2023 as part of a broader push by crypto networks to gain mainstream brand recognition through sports partnerships. The win comes as Hedera continues to expand its enterprise use cases, including supply chain tracking and tokenization of real-world assets on the Hashgraph network.
For HBAR holders, the race result provides a tangible return on the network's marketing spend at a time when crypto projects are increasingly competing for mainstream visibility through sports sponsorships. The exposure during a race weekend that drew millions of live viewers globally could drive both retail and institutional attention to the Hedera ecosystem.
