Bank of America promoted three senior executives to drive artificial intelligence adoption and digital asset expansion across its global markets division, signaling the second-largest US lender is embedding emerging technologies into its core trading and banking operations rather than isolating them in separate innovation units.
Kevin Milsom was named head of platforms AI transformation, responsible for advocating wider day-to-day use of AI across the bank's platforms, according to an internal memo by Ashok Krishnan, head of platforms within the global markets group, seen by Reuters. Sonali Theisen was appointed head of global digital assets platform, overseeing design, development, scaling and governance of the bank's digital asset infrastructure, while retaining her role as head of global FICC e-trading and markets strategic investments. Adam Dixon was named head of global digital asset transformation, covering tokenized deposits, stablecoins, digital collateral management, crypto trade settlement and custody services.
"The appointments reflect our commitment to embedding AI and digital asset capabilities into the fabric of our global markets business," Krishnan said in the memo. The moves come as Bank of America's chief technology officer told Reuters late last year the bank plans to spend billions of dollars on technologies such as artificial intelligence to boost productivity and revenue. CFO Alastair Borthwick said the bank has approximately 300 AI use cases approved and more than 100 already deployed, spanning software development and tools used by relationship managers and financial advisers.
The promotions place BofA alongside JPMorgan Chase in a race among Wall Street's largest banks to commercialize AI and digital assets at scale. JPMorgan Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon said the bank now has roughly 1,000 AI use cases under development companywide, though he cautioned investors that the economic benefits will ultimately flow to customers as rival firms adopt similar capabilities. "AI will have its give-and-takes," Dimon said during the bank's earnings call. "The ultimate beneficiary of AI will be our customers."
The digital asset appointments also signal BofA's growing focus on cryptocurrency infrastructure as a more relaxed US regulatory environment drives wider institutional adoption. Theisen will work with senior leaders across the bank to integrate digital asset offerings with traditional financial infrastructure, the memo said. Bitcoin traded near $63,949 on Friday, while total crypto market capitalization stood at $2.19 trillion, according to CoinGecko data. The bank's push into tokenized deposits and stablecoins through Dixon's new role mirrors a broader industry shift as lenders seek to bridge blockchain-based finance with conventional banking rails.
