Bitcoin's 30-day demand deficit has narrowed from roughly 206,000 BTC to about 5,000 BTC, signaling that selling pressure is nearly exhausted.
Bitcoin's apparent demand deficit narrowed to roughly 5,000 BTC from about 206,000 BTC in July, bringing the 30-day measure close to neutral as buying pressure returns. The shift suggests improving market optimism after weak spot demand had limited Bitcoin's previous recoveries.
Glassnode data shows conviction buyers expanded their share as Bitcoin retreated from above $120,000 toward the $60,000-$70,000 range, with the largest increase around January's drop toward $60,000. Momentum buyers reduced their share sharply over the same period, a pattern last seen during the fall of 2022 when conviction ownership rose as less committed participants' activity decreased.
Historically, positive demand transitions delivered a median 18.1 percent return over the following 60 days, with positive returns in 78 percent of cases and 87 percent of transitions occurring during depressed valuation environments. Still, historical performance does not guarantee the current outcome; demand must cross zero and maintain positive readings to confirm stronger spot participation.
Bitcoin traded at $64,426.61 as of Aug. 19, with $70,000 the key level to reclaim. A confirmed crossover above zero in spot demand would signal broader support than the April-May recovery, which relied on futures leverage. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index sits in extreme fear territory around the mid-teens, leaving room for a sentiment reset if accumulation holds.
Spot and futures demand align
Bitcoin's demand recovery now extends beyond spot activity, after perpetual futures demand also returned above zero. This shift diverges from April and May, when futures demand strengthened while spot demand remained negative. Bitcoin then rose to $82,000 from $70,000 before falling back after futures demand turned negative at the start of June.
The latest crossover shows both markets are showing demand, no longer just leverage behind the upward movement. However, both metrics remain close to zero, leaving the improvement vulnerable to another reversal. Maintaining the trend matters more than the crossover itself. If spot demand turns positive while futures demand stays controlled, Bitcoin could receive broader support than during its previous recovery.
Conviction buyers absorb supply
Persistent buyers are absorbing supply during periods when price momentum offers little support. The cohort shift alone does not establish a market bottom, but continued accumulation would show that stronger holders are steadily taking supply from more price-sensitive investors as broader Bitcoin demand returns.
If demand continues to improve, the recovery structure will strengthen; if it contracts again, buyers have not demonstrated a new longer-term trend. The next confirmation is a sustained crossover above zero in spot demand, which would set up a test of the $70,000 resistance level.
